PRELUDE COURSE - Hybrid Full-Process Experience

PRELUDE COURSE is designed for participants who want a hands-on experience from fixing to finish. This hybrid workshop uses a practical adhesive for the initial bonding (so you can perform the joining yourself in one session) and then concludes with the authentic urushi gilding step. The aim is to let you practice the full sequence in a single, meaningful session while keeping the final finish traditional.

For this course, you are welcome to bring your own pottery. Pieces with up to three broken sections are eligible, and as long as the damage is not too severe, you will be able to take your piece home on the same day.

However, in some cases we may need to check the condition in advance. If necessary, we will contact you to request photos or additional information before your workshop date.

  • kintsugi nook carefully prepares this 120-minute workshop to let you step into the world of kintsugi in a meaningful way.

    What to Expect:

    1. Introduction & overview
      Learn about the philosophy of kintsugi and understand materials (adhesive + urushi), the workshop flow, and allergy/safety notes.

    2. Choose your piece
      Choose from provided broken pieces (or bring a previously broken small ceramic if allowed — confirm in advance). Note: certain premium pieces may incur an additional fee.

      • The design and size of available pieces vary depending on the timing/availability.

      • We offer a wide selection, from antique Japanese vessels to modern and Western ceramics - find one that speaks to you.

    3. Fix pieces with urushi

      Under guidance, glue and fix the broken pieces together using a modern adhesive selected for safety and stability. This allows the fixing step to be performed and handled within the session.

    4. Apply urushi and metallic powder

      Carefully apply urushi then, the metallic powder onto the lacquered lines to reveal the kintsugi.

    5. Finish & brief care instructions

      Quick guidance on how the piece will cure and how to care for it at home. You will take the piece home if the preparation allows; otherwise we’ll explain pick-up/shipping or follow-up options.

PRELUDEコースは、接着から仕上げまで自ら手を動かして体験したい方向けのハイブリッドコースです。最初の接着工程は扱いやすい接着剤を用いて参加者が実際に器を接着することで1日で完結感を得られるよう配慮しています。最後の「金粉蒔き」は本漆で仕上げる、本格的な工程です。

こちらのコースでは、ご自身で器をお持ちいただけます。割れは3分割まで、かつ、ひどいかけや割れでない限り、当日お持ち帰りが可能ですが、事前にお写真を送っていただくなどの対応が必要な場合は、別途ご連絡いたします。

    体験の流れ：

    1. はじめに（イントロダクション＆概要説明）

    金継ぎの哲学や、使用する材料（接着剤＋漆）について学びます。
    ワークショップ全体の流れや、アレルギー・安全に関する注意点もご説明します。

    2. 器を選ぶ

    こちらでご用意した割れた器の中からお好きなものをお選びいただきます。
    （事前に相談いただければ、お持ち込みの小さな割れ物も対応可能です。）

    器のデザインやサイズは、タイミングや在庫状況により異なります。

    3. 器を接着剤で接着する

    講師の指導のもと、講師のサポートのもと、安全性と強度を考慮した現代的な接着剤を使用して、割れた破片を固定します。これにより、 ワークショップ内で接着工程を完了し、その後の作業へ進むことができます。

    4. 漆と金属粉を施す

    慎重に漆を塗り、その上から金属粉をのせて、金継ぎの美しいラインを表現します。

    5. 仕上げ、お手入れの説明

    乾燥・養生の方法と、持ち帰り／受け取りに関する案内を行います。場合によっては後日受け取りや配送対応になります。
